Please use the following scale, better known in scientific circles as a Likert Scale used to gather and understand the participants preferences or degree of agreement with a statement or set of statements.

This reflects my feelings about the following descriptions: Not only does my marriage consistently meet my needs, but I also feel a consistent sensory and emotional connection to my spouse.

This rating would describe that my relationship that the general tone of my marriage is good, but there is definitely some room for improvement.

This reflects my thought that we have definitely had some situations or lack of communication that have caused us to with withdraw from one another and I feel we have some unaddressed issues that are still present.

This describes how I feel about my marriage based upon the following statements: I feel we have settled in to our marriage. I am not exactly happy, but I just put my head down do what I am supposed to do and get the job done. Things usually get better with time.

I chose this rating because I have thought about this situation so much and I don’t think I am the problem. I have been a steady spouse and my partner has dropped the ball and my family and friends agree with me that my spouse is the problem, not me.

I feel that the general tone of the time I spend with my spouse is poor. Most days, we barely speak. If we do, its just business as usual. I have been thinking that I could be happier and daydream about the possibility of what’s next without the marriage. I have not made a move to end the marriage, but actively am looking into what my options may be. I have thought about counseling, but not sure it would help. I am distancing emotionally more than I ever have before.

My relationship is so tense or angry with my spouse that I can
no longer just wait for things to get better. I have told my spouse that I am leaving, or calling
an attorney. I am having an affair, demanded we do “something or else” micromanaging my
spouse in hopes of finding out something. I cannot any longer stay in the current situation and
have an exit strategy.

We are on the brink of divorce and adultery, addiction or abuse have been uncovered or experienced. I feel hopeless that this marriage can be saved as there has been a total breach in trust.

It is important that you as the reader can take an honest look at the current state of the
marriage. This honesty is also important if you choose to speak with a counselor. Truth is
hard, and may be ignored for a short period of time, but never for long.
